The artist’s mother Lena, was gifted in several crafts and she passed these gifts on to her son who was eager to learn everything. He learned to knit, sew and draft his own patterns and at the age of 15 he surprised everyone when his crochet work, a 50cm in diameter centerpiece consisting of 33 pineapples finished with a delicate knot stitch, won 1st prize at the fall fair in Unity Saskatchewan.
